About Mike Yoder

Mike Yoder"I am 40 years old and live in Milton, Pennsylvania with my wife and two young children. My studio is located on an eighty- acre farm, where I live and work with my family. Much of my pottery is inspired from living closely with nature. I enjoy carving nature themes onto the functional stoneware, such as trees, leaves, horses, fish, dragonflies, frogs, and crows. One of the things I like the most about pottery is that it is both functional and a piece of art at the same time.

I have been throwing pots since 1994 as a part-time business. I was first introduced to pottery in 1990, while attending Eastern Mennonite University in Virginia and minoring in art. I took several classes there and have since attended workshops and seminars, but I am primarily self-taught as a potter.

Mike YoderMost of my pottery is functional stoneware, fired in a propane kiln, with lead free glazes. It is safe to use for serving food and can be used in the oven, dishwasher, and microwave. I also enjoy doing some sculpture and tile work. Recently I completed a dragon sculpture which is on display at the Lewisburg Middle School.

As of August 2006, I began throwing pots full time and so am looking to expand what I do. I hope to find more shops and galleries to display my work and hope to offer some workshops in the future as well. Thanks for visiting the website and feel free to e-mail with any questions or comments."
